Patient Portal Emails
We strongly encourage parents to use the email feature through the Patient Portal for routine questions and non-emergency requests such as prescription refills. Emails to doctors, nurses and UPA staff can now be done through the patient portal. Using the portal enables UPA to automatically attach all correspondence to your child's medical record, and provides a better mechanism for tracking responses. Please provide your child's name, date of birth, and prescription information if applicable. Prescriptions may take up to 48 hours to process, so please plan in advance.
During regular office hours, the doctor or nurse might not be available when you call, and you may be asked to leave a voicemail. Please be sure to clearly leave your name, phone number, the name of your child and your child's date of birth. Our nurses check messages frequently, and will respond to your call as soon as possible.
Insurance and Billing
UPA requires co-payments, and non-covered medical charges, be paid at the time of the service. Please be prepared to provide your current insurance card at each visit. We require all new patients to sign a copy of our financial policy at the time of your first visit and to provide a copy of your driver's license to be kept in your child's chart. We strongly advise our parents to check with their insurance company to make sure their policy covers immunizations and well child exams. Many policies do not cover these services and payment will be expected at the time of service. If you have any questions about your account, please call (979) 696-4440, and our staff will be happy to assist you.
UPA provides equal access to all patients, regardless of source of payment.

UPA has acquired a new screening instrument from PediaVision.
PediaVision is able to determine far more than just a child’s need for corrective lenses. More serious conditions such as amblyopia, astigmatism, and eye structure and alignment issues can be diagnosed. Detecting these conditions in early childhood greatly increases the ability to treat them successfully. When left undetected, some of these conditions can lead to blindness in one or both eyes. UPA will perform this screening during annual well visits and other visit types when necessary. The cost of this new screening is $25.00.
At UPA, there are a number of tests we can and will complete in-office. This saves time and provides a more efficient means of treatment than the inconvenience and expense of referring you to another specialist for similar exams. Your insurance policy may or may not cover the PediaVision exam. We will file the claim with your insurance company, but if they do not cover the exam, the $25.00 charge will be due on your next statement. It is up to each family to determine whether or not the exam is covered by insurance.
